Denim Shorts

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love a vintage Levi short, now a short short is well a bit of a stretch for me, but this summer I’ve decided to let go of my insecurities and just go with what the good lord gave me. I wanted to show you how diverse a pair of vintage denim cut offs can be. Here is this weeks style sessions I show you 5 ways to style your shorts.

When looking for a pair of vintage shorts I suggest looking at your local charity shops, online, and instagram is a great source. Make sure to ask about sizing as many vintage jeans are going to be a bit smaller so size up. I also suggest looking for a men’s pair of jeans as they are the absolute best for jean shorts.

Colour Blocking

Let’s talk about colour blocking shall we? Yep, this trend is back again for AW2020 but I say why wait!!!??? Let’s bring it on now. I have to admit colour blocking hasn’t always been my thing, but recently it has definitely grown on me and I’ve found it super fun! Playing with colours is always fun and nowadays the sky is the limit with how much fun you can have. Don’t hold back go all in. Now I do understand though that this trend is not for everyone, so I suggest starting with a colour that suits you and maybe add one other complimentary colour. Start simple and then work your way up. Also don’t forget about accessories. An accessory can really spice up an outfit. If you’re not sure about mixing coloured clothing pieces then maybe do so with an accessory.

1 White Nightie 5 Ways

Who’s loving the nightie trend? I’m loving it! In this weeks style sessions I take one white nightie and style it 5 ways showing you something you normally sleep in can be super beautiful to wear during the day or out for dinner. Ok I’m more of a T-shirt and comfy trousers kinda girl for sleepwear but just think not so long ago women wore these beautiful nighties to bed. Now it’s trendy and acceptable to wear them out and about.

Not included in this video but a dress like this would be perfect for the holidays. Wear it as a cover up at the beach and for the evening just add heels or fancy sandals and some jewellery and you’re ready for a nice dinner with friends.

I say this over and over again but I think it’s very important. When shopping for clothing pieces try to envision multiple ways of wearing that particular piece, if can only be worn one way then try to find something similar that has more versatility.

Accessories

Oh boy do I love an accessory! I mean you couldn't ask for a better way to add some piazz to an outfit. The beauty of an accessory is your outfit doesn't have to be complicated. Start with a simple outfit and then spice it up with a hat or some funky earrings or some kick ass shoes.

In this week's styling video I take 4 simple outfits and spice them up with some cool accessories. I encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to accessorising. For example I used a change from an iPhone case that I wasn’t using as a necklace and works perfectly as a belt too! Don’t be afraid to try out odd combinations. Some may work, some may not but that’s the fun of playing dress up.

This week I have another style session collaboration! I’ve teamed up with Ruth from styleaffair_ruth Ruth is such an eccentric woman with so much style and personality. I love how she is all about body confidence. She encourages women to shop their closet and have fun with what they already have. I can’t wait to see her looks. How to Wear a Mask in Style

Boy oh boy, life is all a bit crazy right now. Who would have thought we would live through a pandemic??!! I know we’ve all experienced a lot of different emotions these past few months and hopefully it’s got all of us thinking. Many of us are coming out of lockdown now and trying to get back to a somewhat normal life, whatever that means. Here in Frankfurt we now have several new freedoms, shops are opening, beer gardens can now be enjoyed and restaurants too will open in the next few weeks. But with these new freedoms comes responsibility and we all must do our part. It’s now mandatory to wear a mask in shops and on public transportation. It’s totally going to take some time to get use too, but in due time we won’t even think twice about it.

I’ve started looking at masks as the new fashion accessory. This week I take 4 outfits and style each outfit with a colourful mask made by me. Wearing a mask doesn’t have to be boring, it can be fun. You can now express yourself with a mask! Cool no??!!! So find yourself some kick ass masks to add a little pizzazz to your outfits!

Style Sessions: The Jumpsuit

Everyone loves a jumpsuit. The great thing about a jumpsuit is it can be worn year round. And to me this is super important as I like versatility in a garment. When it comes to sustainability the most important thing to me is wearing what you have. I don’t understand the point of buying one item to only wear it once. Seriously, it’s wasteful and it takes up space that that could have been taken up by something you actually love and want to wear always.

Now in all honestly I tried to sell this Zara jumpsuit but I had no takers, so I decided to give it another shot. I’m glad I did because I absolutely love the outfits I created here in this video. I think sometimes all we need is a little inspiration to jump start our love for a garment we may have fallen out of love with.

I hope this video can inspire you to give your unloved clothing another try.

Ok so we’re at home now for a few weeks. Some of us or most of us are homeschooling plus trying to work plus trying to keep the house clean etc. All you want to do is get up and get dressed to start your day. Something easy that is not jammies, yoga gear or sweats.

Sweats

Sweats… I thought I would never style up a pair of sweats. I only considered them appropriate for lounging around home or sport, but I am the first to admit that my opinion of sweats has changed! I love them! And I plan on wearing them out and about with heels! I know right!!!!

I had filmed this video before the gloom of the coronavirus and as we are all now in self isolation it couldn’t be more fitting. Comfort while still feeling cool.

Suits

Suits use to be just for men, then as society progressed and fashion progressed, suits became a symbol of woman power. The power suit. Us women became more badass and started owning the suit. It was no longer for men but for all of us. Fast forward to SS2020 and they are back with a vengeance. I am absolutely loving the short suit but I haven’t found myself one yet.

I can’t help myself, I love a vintage shirt!!!!! Especially one with a collar. Now I know the collar trend is everywhere but you know what, I’ve been in love with a collared trend for like ever! It’s so nice to see a trend come round that I don’t have to buy in to. I already have it! Ladies slag off the high street and march right down to your local charity or vintage shop and find yourself the most spectacular vintage shirt. They are out there and they are way more unique then what you’ll find out on the high street and major bonus, no one will be wearing the same one.

I am a sucker for vintage. I love that I am wearing a piece of clothing that has had a history and that it is also being recycled. So many clothing pieces end up in a landfill somewhere. This is such a shame as so many of the clothing we are no longer wearing can be resold, up-cycled or passed on to those in need.

Many of the trends we have today are taken from past trends. I feel there is no reason to go out and buy into a new trend when I’m sure you can find something similar in your local charity or vintage shop. Be inspired by the new trends but then make the trend your own.

When Thrifters Thrift Takeoever

If you know me, you know I love vintage!!!! I’m from the Midwest and we have the best vintage and thrift stores! Most of my wardrobe growing up was secondhand and vintage. And this was cool! All the cool kids wore vintage. When I moved to London I went through a bit of a dry spell and found myself lost in the high street fashion trap!!!! But don’t you worry, I found my way back!

I now live in Frankfurt Germany where vintage is around but not much of it. But I have found a few spots here that I absolutely love. Now that I’ve found my way back to vintage and secondhand I’ve found fashion fun again!

I was asked by the lovely Michelle from When Thrifters Thrift community to take over their instagram with my vintage finds! I was so honoured to be asked. Let’s just say I took this task very seriously and had an absolute blast putting this together.

Organic Gym Wear

Gym wear is everywhere. But what about Organic Gym Wear? Yep, gym wear that makes you feel good about your body and the environment. Join me while I style up Organic Basics new line of gym wear. Gym gear. Yes I know it’s something I never talk about but I’m a big gym goer. I’m at the gym three times a week and I’m also running. It keeps me mentally healthy. 

When it comes to sustainability we almost always just think of our day-to-day clothing. But what about our undergarments, our sportswear, our accessories, our shoes and our home interiors? It’s important to find sustainable options for all of these.

I’ve recently tried out organicbasics Silvertech gym wear and I have to stay I absolutely love it. I’m wearing their Silvertech Active muscle tee and Silvertech Active Leggings. They are super comfy, made out of recycled nylon and they wash extremely well. Their motto is: Run more. Play more. Work more. Travel more. Hike more. Bike more. Wear more. Wash less.

Now another reason I love their garments, they can be worn as regular everyday clothing as well. 

I styled the Silvertech muscle top and the Silvertech leggings with a vintage sheer skirt, vintage hat and trainers for before I go to the gym and I also look great while I’m at the gym. Why not look stylish before, during and after your workout all while being sustainable.

Vintage Skirt

There’s nothing I like better than finding a piece of clothing that I can style in many ways. Even better when it’s vintage. I want pieces in my wardrobe that are special and that make sense. I don’t want to wear it just once, I want to wear it over and over and over again. In today’s society, it’s been normalised to buy cheap, wear once, and discard. Well, things are changing my friends!

Times are a changing and to be honest, they have too. Our buying habits are literally killing our planet. With the amount of clothing produced each year our landfills are now to complete capacity. I’m sure there is enough secondhand clothing for the fashion industry to completely stop producing new collections for years to come. I mean come on people this is insane!

So how can we make a difference. Well, buy secondhand and vintage garments and buy garments you know you can style in many different ways. Have fun with the clothing you have!!!! Challenge yourself to stop buying new and style what you have in your wardrobe. Play dress up!!!

Boy is it hot out!!!! Here in Frankfurt it’s 36 degrees. I mean woah! Now that it’s officially summer, it’s time to find some great summer dresses for you to wear this season. When it comes to shopping I always look for a dress first. A dress is so easy, there’s no thought that goes into it. Slip on a pair of sandals and viola you’re ready to go.

Their collection is beautifully made. comfortable and very stylish. I dressed up this beautiful light blue dress three ways: summer time chic, casual and dressed up. This dress is very versatile. 4. United Colors of Benetton - Now I normally just shop here for my daughter but recently I saw this dress in the window and totally fell in love. I left it for awhile but finally decided to go in and have a try. I’m so glad I did because ladies this dress is awesome! It’s lightweight and can be worn so many different ways. I styled it here with it loose, with a belt and tied in the front and back. Definitely give this dress a go.

5. Ganni - I am a total Ganni lover. Mainly because their dresses are easy. I mean this dress was a no brainer. It’s oversized and slowly, puffy sleeves and it just looks cool. This dress is perfect on it’s own or paired with the beautiful cream cotton Kai Bea Dress.

6. Kai Bea Dress - I have been eyeing this dress up for a long while now. I’ve screenshot it, put it in my Wishlist and drooled over it numerous times. Then she had a special sale day on this dress and I jumped for joy!!! UK brand, this dress can be worn several ways, on its own, over another dress, worn as a jacket or a shirt. I styled it here over another dress and over a pair of shorts and a vest. So cool!

7. Honey Rocks London - I’ve seen this dress all over instagram, styled beautifully, but I have styled this particular for you three different ways. A classic look, turning this dress into a halter and also styling it as a skirt. Yep pretty awesome! One dress worn three ways. Perfect.

8. M.92 - I mean this dress is a dream. You can only order this dress through her instagram and she has very limited stock. Luckily I got in there just in time! I’ve already worn this dress to a wedding and let’s just say it was a highlight of the evening. Here in this video I have styled it for you casually and dressed up for drinks or a wedding. 9. Kelly Ekardt - The Judith is provably one of the most comfortable dresses you will wear. The bonus of this dress, it has pockets!!!!! Yep, oversized, gingham, cotton and has pockets. What’s not to like??!!!

10. Maska - Usually, I’m not a huge fan of linen, but this wrap dress is a winner. I love a wrap dress and the colour and shape of this particular dress is really lovely. It’s perfect for a summer evening and can definitely be worn into the Autumn.

It's all about Preloved Fashion

Growing up I was the queen of vintage. It was just what my friends and I wore. We felt cool and indie when we wore it to school. Fast forward to when I was living in London and my love for vintage fell to the wayside. I was so into high street brands, it was seriously ridiculous. But then one day I woke up decided to stop with the mainstream and go back to having a love affair with vintage. I am so glad I did. There is no excuse now not to buy preloved clothing, whether it be vintage or secondhand. There are so many amazing curated shops and online boutiques catering to those of us who love fashion, but are more conscious about our buying choices.

I understand that buying vintage or secondhand can be daunting for many you and you have mentioned before that you’re not sure what to look for or where to start when shopping for it. So I want to give you some tips.

1. Before heading out to your local vintage or secondhand shop, have a look at what you already have and keep this in mind, take note of what you don’t have or need or would like and write this down.

2. Get some outfit inspiration from Pinterest, instagram or the runway. Screenshot these looks so you can refer back to them when shopping.

3. Start with accessories that can be mixed with your more modern pieces. I like to shop for belts,, hat, jewellery, blazers and blouses. These are so easy to pair with your favourite jeans.

4. When searching for vintage jeans, check out the mens section. This is where all the amazing Levi’s are hiding out. And don’t trust the sizes on the tag as the sizing system as changed over the years. If you are a 28 in jeans than you’ll most likely be a bigger size in vintage jeans, so TRY THEM ON!

5. Make sure and check the washing labels and material so you know what your are buying and how it needs to be cared for.

6. Check over the garment and make sure there aren’t any stains or holes. Unless you want that look.

7. Remember to have fun when out and about shopping for preloved fashion. It’s about you and your style. And also remember if you find a piece that you absolutely love and it’s too long, it can be shortened. So always keep this in mind.

8. Also remember the more secondhand and vintage pieces you buy the less money the ever so terrible fast fashion industry is making.

9. When you buy preloved, most likely its unique, and no one else will be wearing it. This my friends is awesome!

Spring is almost here and what does that mean???!!! Yep new season new trends. Now I’m not one to follow trends religiously, but I do keep my eye out for what’s about to hit the shops. I like to look to the runway and high street for inspiration and then put my own spin on it. I also try my hardest to take this inspiration and find pieces that are secondhand or vintage. Also, please not that not every trend is for everyone. It’s all about picking what is best for you and styling it up your own way! Have fun with it!

BOWS

Bows aren’t for everyone but I think this trend can be interpreted in many ways. If you’re up for it find a vintage piece with a big bow on it like I’m wearing here from Overdress Vintage. But if you would prefer to wear something a bit more subtle, then I recommend finding a detachable bow that can be worn with a button up shirt and jeans. There’s nothing wrong with wearing a trend just a little bit.

Boilersuits are huge! Every designer and high street brand has their own version of the boilersuit. I have to admit I love a boilersuit myself. They are super comfy and very versatile. I’m wearing a very nice one from Topshop here and I’ve styled it wearing heels, boots and sandals. It can even be worn from day to night. If you can though I encourage you to go out and find a vintage one.

Patterns, patterns, patterns. It’s all about the bigger, the bolder, the print. Mix and match all your prints together. Anything goes here. And yes ladies leopard print is included in this. I’m wearing a beautiful vintage silk skirt from Manifesto Woman and I’ve paired it with a striped vintage button-up and Zara trainers. Use the runway and high street as inspiration but then go out and find a vintage or secondhand piece. There are so many beautiful pieces to be had!

I am also wearing a magnificent vintage printed jumpsuit here. This falls into many trend categories, Print, jumpsuit and 70’s. This piece is from Ella Pop Shop and it’s just divine. I have paired it with a vintage hat and Jospeh Sandals.

HATS

For those of you who know me or follow me, you know I love a hat!!!! I mean seriously love a hat. A hat can take your outfit to a whole other level, a level of very cool. I understand that many of you are not hat people and I understand this, but I do think you should take a day and go try on hats. You’ll find how much joy it can bring you. And when you find the perfect one, babes, it’s s game changer. Now for those of you that are totally on the clip and headband trend, it fits into this category as well. I’ve shown myself wearing some cool hats below.

CRAFT

When it comes to the craft trend, it’s all about crochet, embroidery, patchwork, patches, basically anything that looks homemade. If you’re not up for wearing craft from head to town then I suggest finding a cool jacket with patches on it. Or better yet make your own. There are many many vintage options out there. Maybe your mom or grandma may have some pieces laying around. Mine unfortunately doesn’t but I’m on the lookout for some great vintage options.

I found a few great craft pieces a couple of seasons ago from Zara and I am still wearing them like crazy.

LACE

Many people associate lace with being quite feminine, but Lae can also be dressed down and quite rock and roll. Wear lace as a dress, a top or just as an accessory. If you’re not up for head to toe lace then I recommend finding a pretty lace top and pairing it with straight legged jeans and some flats or sandals. Pretty but also casual. I’m wearing a secondhand dress from French Connection that I found at one of my all time favourite shops in London, Change of Heart. I’ve paired it with a Ramones t-shirt and sandals, but I would also wear this over jeans and with trainers. Bottomline make each trend your own.

BIKER SHORTS

I know most of you are thinking what the fuck is this??!!! But hey I’ve got say I am totally loving this trend. I love how a biker short can be paired with an oversized blazer. If you’re not up for wearing the biker shorts on their own then I would suggest pairing them with a sheer skirt or dress. Or wear under a short skirt.

DENIM

Ok yes denim is always in fashion, but it goes through many different cycles. One season it’s all about high-waisted jeans, the next season its all about dungarees, the next season is about dark denim, etc. Well this season is all about bleached denim, but I wanted to not just limit the trend to just this. It’s all about denim period and the more denim the better. Double your denim, actually triple your denim, it all works.

This season mix and match your denim. And I encourage you to find yourself some vintage denim pieces. There is nothing like a great pair of vintage Levi’s. They were designed to last the test of time and most of the time they do. I would also look for mens vintage jeans, they seem to be the best fit and they just look cool too.

SUITS

I just love how classy a suit looks. But I also love how now a suit can be worn in a very casual way, which is what I am all about, casual cool. A suit offers lots of versatility, wear with heels and a nice blouse or wear with a hoodie and trainers or wear them as separates. Also not that it doesn’t have to be a blazer and trousers it can be a skirt blazer combo which is very cool as well. Find a suit that works for you and play around with it. BEIGE

The last trend I would like to talk about is beige. I understand that it can be seen as a pretty land colour but actually its so beautiful. And when paired with other colours it looks amazing. I would pair beige with a bright neon colour or a navy blue or wear it head to toe. But remember you don’t need to wear one trend form head to toe. Try a classic beige Mac with an oversized white button-up, a pair of vintage Levi’s and some sandals. Viola, classic but also trendy. If you’re up for the beige head to toe than wear all different shades of beige, the more the merrier. Play around with beige as not every shade with suit every skin tone, but I promise you’ll find a shade that suits you.
